Sae Shimauchi （Ph.D., she/her) is an Associate Professor at Tokyo Metropolitan University, International Center. Her research lies in the intersection of international education, cultural studies, sociology, gender, queer, media & fan studies, ranging from theory to practices.
Her current research project is public pedagogy in fandom of popular culture fandom in East Asia.
Her recent publications can be found in Education Sciences, Media, Culture and Society, Feminist Media Studies, Inter-Asia Cultural Studies, Globalisation, Societies and Education and Continuum. Her books are also available in Japanese and English. She is currently (2024-2026 summer) in sabbatical and open for public engagement such as contributing articles, speeches and lectures.
