Sae Shimauchi （Ph.D., she/her) is an Associate Professor at Tokyo Metropolitan University, International Center. Her research lies in the intersection of international education, cultural studies, sociology, gender, queer, media & fan studies, ranging from theory to practice.
Her current research project is public pedagogy in transcultural fandom of popular culture in East Asia.
Her recent publications can be found in International Journal of Cultural Studies, Japan Forum, Education Sciences, Media, Culture and Society, Feminist Media Studies. Her research papers and books are also available in Japanese and English. She is currently (Oct. 2025- Sep. 2026) in sabbatical and available for public engagement such as contributing articles, speeches and lectures in Japan and abroad.
